Description
‘Troponin I’ is the inhibitory subunit of the Troponin complex, the regulatory complex which confers calcium-sensitivity to striated muscle actomyosin ATPase activity. The cardiac isoform Troponin I-TNNI3 is useful in detection of myocardial infarction.
The detection of a rise and/or fall of cardiac troponin plays a key role in the earlier diagnosis of myocardial infarction (MI).
Cardiac troponins are markers of myocardial necrosis, and, because of their high cardiac-specificity, are the preferred biomarker for the diagnosis of cardiac injuries.
